Welcome!

The name change begins! Dry Sack Sherry is forcing us to change our name. Our new name is 'Grey Stack' and our new web address is www.GreyStackCellars.com - but the old address will still work. Nothing else will change but the name. The labels will look the same, the web site will work the same (with a few small improvements) and most importantly of all, the wines will stay the same. 'Grey Stack' is the names of our 2 vineyards smashed together - Dry Stack Vineyard and Greywacke Vineyard. Grey Stack represents the rock wall as Dry Stack did but it also represents our two vineyards that supply all of our grapes.

Our Second Release of Wines is now available!

Why Grey Stack?
"Dry stack" is a method of building short rock walls using no binder such as cement to hold the rocks in place. Instead the wall is created by stacking carefully selected, interlocking stones so the wall is self-supporting. This method of wall building has been used for centuries in many farming areas with high rock content as a way of using up the rock found naturally in the soil.

When we developed our vineyard in Bennett Valley, we removed 4,000 yards of rock creating a very, very big pile. To consume the rock, and to keep tractors and trucks away from oak trees that we were trying to preserve, we had the vineyard crew build dry stack walls. It takes quite a bit of expertise to build walls with no cement, but the guys on the crew were very skilled and we ended up with many beautiful walls on the property.

It is from these dry stack walls, created from the rock taken from the soil of our vineyard, that our winery gets its name.

Dry Stack Cellars makes Syrah, Rosé of Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc from estate grapes grown at Dry Stack Vineyard in Bennett Valley, Sonoma County, California.

At Dry Stack Cellars our goal is to use each unique terroir to create an intense expression of the vineyard, and then to transform that expression from grapes into wine with as little intervention and adulteration as possible.
